Ventilation does not replace air sealing or insulation. Recessed lights, attic hatches, ceiling penetrations, and mechanical chases can allow warm indoor air to enter the attic. Uneven insulation can create hot spots and increase heat flow into the home even when the roof vents are functioning.
A roofing contractor can document visible attic and roof conditions, but significant indoor-air, mechanical, insulation, mold, or building-science concerns may require another qualified specialist. Clear referrals are preferable to claiming one roofing product will solve every comfort or moisture issue.
Exterior details still deserve inspection
Even when humidity is suspected, the roof should be checked at vents, pipe flashings, sidewalls, valleys, chimneys, fasteners, and any location corresponding to the moisture. Mixed causes are possible: a small exterior opening and poor attic airflow can affect the same area.
Photograph both sides of the assembly where access allows. Interior moisture readings, staining patterns, rusted fasteners, compressed insulation, and exterior flashing conditions create a stronger diagnosis together than any single clue.
Use replacement as an opportunity to correct the plan
When a Missouri City roof reaches replacement, the existing ventilation layout can be reviewed before materials are ordered.
